Izak Privacy Policy
What Izak holds about you, and why.
Version 1.0 · 9 October 2026
This page says what Izak collects, what it is used for, who else sees it, how long it is kept, and what you can ask for. It is written to be read.
1What Izak collects
Your account: name, email, username, password (stored hashed, never readable), and the sessions you sign in with.
Your fishing: what you log in the app: catches, photos, species, weights, trips, waters and spots, the tackle in your bag, your saved content and the creators you follow, and the questions you ask Izak.
Location: a catch or spot you log carries the location you give it. Your location is never shown to other anglers more precisely than you choose, and guides never see a pin on a spot: they see water names and regions only.
Requests to guides: the day, the trip, the party size, the extras and the note you send, and what you chose to share.
Businesses: for a business on the website, its name, handle, business email, legal entity, members and roles, listing, channels, products, requests and reviews, and the documents its owner accepted (which version, when). Tax residence, and a tax ID when the business gives one, which is stored encrypted with a key kept away from the database.
How you use Izak: which screens and content you open, plays, saves and clicks, so Izak can recommend better and creators can see how their content does. Izak does not use third-party advertising trackers.
2What it is used for
To run Izak for you: your logbook, your tackle bag, finding guides and content that fit how you fish, answering your questions, and running a business’s pages. To tell creators and guides, in numbers, how their content and listings do. To keep Izak safe and within the law. To email you about your account, and about Izak only if you say yes.
In plain English. Your data runs the service for you. It is not sold.
3Who else sees it
Other anglers see what you choose to share in Social and on public catches, with the location precision you set.
A guide you send a request to sees your rating and guided days on Izak, and only what you chose to share: your level, the species from your logbook, your home town. Your name, photo and contact reach the guide only when the guide accepts.
A creator sees plays, citations, saves and clicks as numbers, never who you are, unless you choose to share your details with them.
The services Izak runs on: Vercel (hosting), Neon (the database), Resend (email), Klaviyo (the waitlist and email audience, only for addresses that signed up), Mapbox (maps), YouTube (videos play in YouTube’s own player, under YouTube’s terms), and Anthropic (the model behind Ask Izak, which receives the question and what is needed to answer it). No outside AI company trains on creators’ content through Izak.
4How long it is kept
For as long as you have an account. Records of which documents a business accepted, and the event stream behind creators’ numbers, are kept for the time the law and the business need them. When you delete your account, your personal data is removed; a business you own must be handed over or closed first, and its records are kept in the business’s name.
5Your choices
You can see and change what you share, in the app and on the website. You can ask for everything Izak holds about you, as a file. You can delete your account. You can switch marketing email off at any time; account email is needed to run your account. Write to jon.mitchell@fishwithizak.com for anything this page does not cover.
6Children
Izak is for people 13 and over. If you believe someone under 13 has an account, tell us and it will be removed.
7Changes
When this policy changes, the version and date at the top change, and you will be told in the app or by email before anything material takes effect.
